Staff Spotlight: Nangekhe Malisa

Hello everyone!  Today we wanted to mix up our blog post and share some information about someone who is very near and dear to us at TUSP.  Nangekhe Malisa, without whom we would not be capable of functioning the way we do in Namisindwa District.  Malisa is one of our direct links to the community and we are incredibly grateful and fortunate to have her on our team.  Read on to see an interview that Phillip, Country Manager, had with Malisa to get to know her a bit better.

1. How long have you been working with The Uganda School Project?

I began working with TUSP in 2018 as an Auditor, but later I was promoted as a project coordinator on the 5th of May 2019.

2. What do you do for TUSP?

I am the Project Coordinator. I monitor the activities of TUSP and make reports for them. For example, now with extra lessons for Primary 7 [ahead of their Secondary School entrance exams] and the school lunches programme, I am tracking the budget and paying the school. Also, with the School Mother’s Programme [youth girls mentoring programme], I monitored the workshops. In case of any problems with TUSP projects, the school can report to me and I report to TUSP. Also, I attend meetings for UPE [Universal Primary Education] funding and share these with TUSP. Then, I track UPE expenses and compare to the budget. Then I monitor the income generation programme [community livestock rearing programme] and make reports for TUSP. At Bumakenya, I am also taking records of attendance of teachers and pupils. For microfinance, I work with the Eunice and Mary [project administrator and coordinator] to run the programme. We attend meetings and help to track loan repayments. I am also reconciling cash and loan books.

3. Wow! So you are quite busy?

Yes! TUSP has many good projects.

4. What do you like most about your job with TUSP?

I like the job and the people that I am working with. The people are very united and cooperative.

6. What is your educational background?

I attended Uganda Christian University in Mbale and have a degree in social work and social administration.

7. What do you like to do in your free time?

In my freetime, I listen to music and watch the news. On Sunday, I attend church. I also like watching football.

8. What is your favorite food?

I like eating fruits. My favorite are pineapples, mangoes and passion fruits.

9. What is your biggest fear?

Snakes

10. Where is your favorite place to spend time?

I like to spend time with my church and with my friends and parents,

11. If you could travel anywhere, where would you go and why?

Kampala because there, for example, when you are buying things there they are very cheap, like shoes and clothing.

Help us in thanking Malisa for taking the time to be interviewed and for sharing more about herself with us.  Also help us in thanking her for the incredible work that she does with TUSP.  Without her, we truly wouldn’t have the impact that we do in the community.  Thank you, Malisa!
