About Us
By building quality schools in under-resourced communities, we provide children with access to education that empowers them to gain foundational skills and break the cycle of poverty.
Through a holistic approach combining infrastructure, skilled teachers, and community participation, we create safe learning environments that inspire academic success, social development and teacher retention.
As children gain foundational education skills, they unlock opportunities for better livelihoods, uplift their families, and contribute to the long-term growth and stability of their communities.
Supporting educational development that helps individuals and communities to thrive
The Uganda School Project was set up in 2016 with the mission to support primary school development in Uganda through building infrastructure and strengthening educational capacity.
Namisindwa District is located in one of the most breath-taking areas in Uganda, but suffers from a lack of access to services such as healthcare and education. Although the Ugandan government has an initiative to provide free primary school education (under the ‘Universal Primary Education’ programme), a lack of resources and undertrained teaching staff has led to low educational outcomes in many rural schools. UNICEF has estimated that 32% of children in Uganda who enrol in primary school are likely to drop out before finishing the prescribed seven years. The statistics are worse for girls and for children with any sort of disability.
During our first years we have supported two primary schools in Namisindwa District, establishing an ‘educational infrastructure’ that includes:
Construction of 14 new classrooms (and counting!)
Construction of two latrine blocks
Construction a 12,500 litre tank to collect rain water
Construction a 12,500 litre tank to collect rain water
Providing clean, safe drinking water from a nearby spring
Free school lunch programme for all pupils and teachers, supporting over 1500 people daily
Extra phonics and literacy classes
Teacher Training Workshops
‘School Mother’ Programme, which provides extra-curricular education in areas such as menstrual health, prevention of STI transmission and early pregnancy.
